LASIK Surgery

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) reshapes the cornea with a laser to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatism. A thin flap is created on the corneal surface, the laser reshapes the tissue underneath, and the flap is closed to heal on its own -- the whole thing is quick, safe, and virtually painless. Dr. Huq also offers two related laser vision correction options: SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction, no flap -- the surgeon removes a lens-shaped layer from inside the cornea through a tiny incision) and PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy, where the corneal surface itself is gently reshaped with laser, no flap or incision). Immediately after surgery some watery eyes, burning, or mild discomfort is normal and usually passes within days; vision can be hazy or fluctuate for up to 6 months as the eyes fully settle, though most patients notice a dramatic improvement the same day.
