SMILE Eye Surgery

SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) corrects myopia and astigmatism using a femtosecond laser to shape a small lens-like piece of tissue (a lenticule) inside the cornea, then removes it through an incision of less than 4mm -- no corneal flap is created, unlike LASIK. Because the incision is so much smaller, more of the cornea's nerves stay intact, which means less dry eye afterward and a generally faster recovery. Most patients notice improved vision almost immediately and return to normal activities within 1-3 days, though full stabilisation takes a few weeks. It significantly reduces or removes the need for glasses/contacts for most patients, though natural age-related vision changes can still occur later in life.
